NTFS for Linux 7.0 Professional

Paragon NTFS for Linux 7.0 is a commercial Linux kernel driver for rapid and transparent read/write access to NTFS volumes. The Professional Edition includes the fully functional NTFS for Linux driver, complementary support, a driver to mount Microsoft Dynamic Volumes/Software RAID, and additional utilities to check partition integrity, defragment, wipe, create NTFS volumes and perform other NTFS file system related tasks from your Linux OS

Full features

New Features

  • New Improved installation procedure
  • New UTF16 character encoding supported
  • New Several codepages are supported simultaneously
  • New Full interoperability with Mac® OS X SAMBA clients
  • New Full interoperability with torrent software
  • New Full support of "Alternate Data Streams" via the single NTFS driver (no additional utilities required)

Key Features

  • Easy installation - there is shell script that builds kernel module, installs it, and automatically mounts all local NTFS and HFS+/HFSX volumes and (optionally) places them into fstab to mount them automatically at Linux startup.
  • Full read-write access at highest data throughput rates possible
  • No performance throttling in Express Edition
  • Support for 2.4.X and 2.6.X Linux Kernels (Kernels up to 2.6.33.4 tested)
  • Low system requirements (less than 1 Mb to load driver and mount single NTFS volume)
  • Support for all kinds of Windows Dynamic Volumes (simple, spanned, striped, mirrored and RAID5 volumes) and Software RAID via Paragon LDM (Logical Disk Manager) driver
  • Additional powerful utilities
  • Complimentary support.*

General Features

Mount any NTFS and HFS+/HFSX volumes like native Linux ones. Automatically add volumes to fstab (for automatic mounting at Linux startup).

  • 64 Bit architecture support
  • Supported NTFS features (see also "limitations")
    • NTFS versions 1.2, 3.0 and 3.1 (Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista/Windows 7)
    • compressed files (NTFS)
    • sparse files support (NTFS)
  • Supported HFS/HFSX features (see also "limitations")
    • HFS+/HFSX version shipped with MacOS 10.4, 10.5, 10.6
  • File and folder names in national languages, including Asian. Codepage for filename translation is specified via mount options.
  • No system degradation during data transfer
  • Support for SMP kernels (multiprocessor systems)
  • High performance — transfer rate is the same as for native File systems
  • There is no limitation to maximum file and volume size (within the kernel and NTFS or HFS+/HFSX limitations)

Additional Utilities:

  • mkntfs — formats any partition as NTFS under Linux;
  • chkntfs — checks NTFS partitions for integrity and fixes errors;
  • dfntfs — defragments NTFS volumes
  • cpntfs—simple and fast Paragon NTFS for Linux backup/restore utility that allows to copy and restore files and directories to/from/between NTFS partitions under Linux OS. The utility can be useful to make backups of NTFS file system and restore it later on the same or a newly formatted NTFS partition.
  • infntfs — displays NTFS version, free/used disk space information, NTFS volume label, dirty flag, serial number and allows to change them.
  • fsutil — Linux analogue of Microsoft’s fsutil for Windows —performs many NTFS related tasks, such as managing file system information, additional streams, compression, hardlinks etc.
  • wipe — irreversibly deletes sensitive data from NTFS/FAT volumes
  • mftpack — allows to pack/truncate MFT (MasterFileTable) on NTFS volumes
  • hdlnk — allows to enumerate all hard links on NTFS volumes
  • junction —allows to show reparse points on a NTFS volumes
  • New mkfat — formats partition as FAT under Linux
  • New extents — traces files/folders extens
  • New svntfs — fragments free space and files on NTFS partition
  • New mkhfs — formats any partition as HFS+ under Linux
  • New chkhfs —check HFS+/HFSX partition integrity and fix errors

Limitations:

NTFS features:

  • Encrypted files cannot be decrypted. Body of a file will be copied encrypted with loss of decryption capability. Cpntfs utility can be used to copy encrypted files while preserving capability to decrypt them later.
  • Attributes to be lost:
    • when copying from NTFS to Linux FS: NTFS alternate streams will not be copied, along with compression flag and security attributes (use the cpntfs utility to preserve these attributes — available in Professional Edition)
    • when copying from Linux FS to NTFS: all security attributes (access rights and ownership) will be lost
  • Hardlinks and symlinks: any link will be copied as a full file with its body while losing link information
    HFS+/HFSX features:
  • alternate data streams (forks) are not supported.
  • extended attributes are not supported.

*Complimentary support provides installation assistance and free support for 60 consecutive calendar days starting from your Paragon software and license date of purchase. Support requests are to be submitted via Paragon Web site only.
