What Is Virtualization?

An overview for beginners

How does a PC work? With hardware and software

Typical PC’s are comprised of several physical parts – a main board, modules for audio and graphics, hard drives, etc. Software works within hardware and gives orders to the respective parts just as notes define what music should be played on an instrument.

What is a virtual machine?
It’s simulation software for a PC’s hardware

Imagine that your hardware and its processing ability could be simulated within your software: this is how a virtual machine is set up. It is software which you can install in your operating system to show you exactly what would happen if you boot your brand-new PC. In order to set this up you have to install an operating system on your “virtual hardware”.

What does virtualization mean?
Transferring your OS into a virtual environment

This is where Paragon Software comes in: Virtualization Manager 2010 transfers the operating system installed on your real hardware to your virtual machine and makes it bootable. Now you have a complete clone of your operating system running on virtual hardware which can be booted in a window on your physical computer.
