What is UFSD?
UFSD is an abbreviation to Paragon's Universal File System Drivers, that are based on an unique
technology developed by Paragon Software Group to provide full access (read/write, format, etc.) to
volumes of all popular file systems such as NTFS, FAT, Ext2Fs, HFS+ etc. under various platforms:
DOS, Windows, Linux, Mac OS X etc. (where these file systems are not otherwise
supported).
Paragon Universal File System Drivers are designed to be readily integrated into any solution
using UFSD Software Development Kit (UFSD SDK), which includes all of the necessary tools to
develop applications with the following main features:
- Access to un-mounted partitions (i.e. drive letter not assigned);
- Access to other file systems that normally would not be supported by the operating system;
- Platform-independent UFSD API.
Most Paragon Software products use UFSD technology to provide full read/write access to
different file systems, including:
UFSD technology provides full access to partitions independently of their support by the
current OS (via physical device addressing). With UFSD technology it is possible to mount, for
example, NTFS partitions under Linux, Mac OS X, DOS, etc to gain access to their contents. As a
result, Paragon UFSD solutions are very popular and in high demand: such as our
NTFS for Linux and
NTFS for Mac OS X solutions within the Linux
and Mac communities.
Paragon has many success stories regarding projects for first-tier OEMs (Lenovo, Linksys,
Dell, etc) and Software Developers/Vendors (Phoenix, Corel, Xandros, etc) where our UFSD technology
has been integrated into their hardware and software products. World-class companies choose Paragon
because UFSD-based drivers offer very good performance, equivalent or even better than the
corresponding native performance, and because our exhaustive testing with so many different
configurations provides 100% assurance that no file or volume corruption will occur. UFSD-related
products have very low system requirements, and our source code's platform-independence allows us
to easily port UFSD on any hardware platform in the market. UFSD technology currently supports ARM,
MIPS and PowerPC architectures, and is also compatible with 64bit platforms (AMD64 and EM64T) and
IA64 (Itanium).
